The Winston Group’s David Winston was recently featured in an article from The Wall Street Journal about cost-of-living worries and how the preference for Republicans to handle economic issues has started to slip. If Democrats win by double digits among independents and can sustain leads on the economy, a Blue Wave could be possible. But, it is not inevitable:
Winston, who advises congressional GOP leaders, said he believes that voter impressions can still change. “People are in constant contact with prices,” he said. “So, if in October people start walking into grocery stores and gas stations and say, ‘I can now handle the cost of living,’ that is the decisive moment.”
Economic issues may be a challenging dynamic for Republicans, but that does not mean 2026 is a foregone conclusion. Read the full piece here.
